Telluride Airport Runway Closure

Dear Tourism Partners and Locals,
 
     Attached is some information on the Telluride Airport Runway Closure that will occur April 7, 2009 – November 2, 2009.
 
     Additionally, on the attached is excellent information about:
1)      Alternate ways for Destination Guests to Fly to the region
2)      Rental Car and Ground Transportation options
3)      Info on Helicopter service to the Telluride Regional Airport that some high-end guests may wish to take advantage of.
 
     As progress on the Telluride Airport Improvement Project continues we will help to communicate additional information about the status of the project itself and any other information that you may need.
 
     While the Telluride Airport improvements will not open up the airport classification to the point where Jets can fly into Telluride on a commercial basis, the improvements will:
1)      Enhance the safety of the Telluride Regional Airport
2)      Change the classification of the Telluride Regional Airport where it can accept 74 Seat Q400 Aircraft (Estimated Fall of 2010).
 
     Last…it is important to know that the TRAA Board of Directors and Rich Nuttal the Airport Manager have worked extremely hard to minimize the impacts of a runway closure to the community…ie…initially the airport was scheduled to close two years instead of just the one season that is now going to occur. This took a lot of work and coordination with the engineers, construction firms and the FAA. One summer of closure will bring many future benefits to Telluride!

Spring Is In The Air

Every year as our winter season slowly melts into spring my excitement grows.  That time has come in Telluride as our temperatures rise and days seem longer - I've even seen a few blooming bulbs.  Although we have more snow on the horizon, it does feel reassuring to know summer is right around the corner.

With only a few short weeks left in the ski season, now is the time to get outside and enjoy the mountain!  TelSki has made use of daylight savings time by Springing Forward and extending their hours through the end of the season.  For more information check out the link below:

While the snow is prime for skiing, across our valley the sun has dried many south facing hillsides.  The Judd Weibie hiking trail is another wonderful way to get out and enjoy the day.  Head up to the top of Aspen St. to catch the trailhead.... incredibly warm and extremely scenic.
